A direct cremation is a pared-back option, usually offering an unattended cremation. Your loved one is taken to the crematorium by the funeral director for the cremation without any service, music, flowers or additions.
A traditional funeral is arranged around the wishes of the family and your loved one and usually includes bespoke features such as limousines, floral tributes, a service led by a minister and so on.
As an experienced funeral director, the Solely Cremation team recognise that while direct cremation offers an affordable alternative, families still want to say goodbye. That’s why we offer three options, maintaining the simple elegance of a direct cremation but with time for the family to have a moment of remembrance at the crematorium.

As an established funeral director, we have funeral homes in Lichfield, Tamworth and Brownhills, each with a tranquil Chapel of Rest. By choosing Solely Cremation, you know your loved one will be taken back to a family-run funeral home until the cremation.
There are many different reasons for choosing a direct cremation instead of a traditional funeral, and vice versa. Sometimes a direct cremation is chosen when the deceased has no family, the family lives abroad and cannot make it back for a funeral or the person who has passed specifically requested it. You just need to decide what your loved one would have chosen, and what is right for the family who mourn them.
We usually use two crematoriums –
You will be told the time and date of the cremation. Depending on the service you choose, you can add music and attend the crematorium chapel if you opt for an attended Daybreak or Sunrise Service. Although we do not add bespoke aspects to a direct cremation, we would be happy to place a flower on the coffin if requested.
We have recommended ministers of every denomination, humanists and celebrants. We would be happy to make arrangements for you.
You may collect the cremated remains directly from the crematorium within two weeks.
If you prefer, you can collect them from our Brownhills office for an additional £85, or we can deliver to your home within Staffordshire, Warwickshire, the West Midlands and the East Midlands, for an additional £95.
The cremated remains are provided in a biodegradable box which can be buried.
